63rd Annual Emmy Awards: Who Hit Their Mark & Who Fell Fashionably Short

The awards have been distributed, the toasts have been made, and now that the curtain is drawn at the 63rd Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. Millions of viewers from around the world were left wondering one thing…what were they thinking?

Yes, ladies and gentlemen; the attendees of the Emmys were not the only ones who caused a ruckus on the Red Carpet. Fashion icons such as Donna Karan, Calvin Klein, Monique Lhuillier, Vera Wang, and Zuhair Murad put their best foot forward by presenting some of their latest fall designs on the celebrities who they believed knew how to work them – or so they thought!

So I’m sure you’d like to know, in my opinion, who nailed their look and who fell short on the Red Carpet this year? It looks like celebrities took inspiration from the carpet itself, confidently showcasing form-fitted red designs that reminded onlookers of what Hollywood glamour is supposed to mean. Kate Winslet, for example, rocked the trend in a red Elie Saab gown that she paired with tasteful jewelry and a simple, wavy up-do. Can someone say effortless glam done right?

Another actress who caused quite a stir in red was Nina Dobrev from The Vampire Diaries. Her mermaid-fitted Donna Karan gown left everyone breathless as she made her way into the ceremony. She might even win my vote for best-dressed of the night.

* Gasp! *

So who missed their mark on Sunday?

Hands down it was Gwyneth Paltrow. The detail and intricate beadwork was lost as everyone stood wondered, does she know the middle of her Emilio Pucci dress is missing? Although one of the most talented actresses of her time, she chose a dress that not only failed to flatter her figure, but distracted us from what a beautiful woman she truly is. No more mid-drift, we understand that hipster-chic is in right now, but not at the Emmys.

My other miss of the night, even though it kills me to say it, was the brilliant Zooey Deschanel. She is by far, one of my favorite actresses, but her Monique Lhuillier dress made her look as though she were heading to prom rather than a red carpet event. Come on Zooey! I love pocket dresses as much as the next girl, but you looked like a giant piece of bubble gum. I know you’ll make up for it next time.

Finally, the one dress of the night that left me indecisive was Heidi Klum’s Christian Siriano, coral dress. On one hand, her supermodel looks allow her to get away with outfits that other women struggle to even look at, but does that make it okay? I’ll leave it up to you to decide.

So there you have it readers! This is McKenna and my two cents on the styles of the 2011 Emmys! Feel free to share your thoughts with me as well!
